Event code: SPE05 Synopsis: This interactive course is designed to help an ophthalmic practice manager or doctor improve their HR skills. A seasoned panel of managers from Thomas Eye Group will present practical insights from the practice regarding staff recruitment, orientation, motivation, counseling, discipline and mentoring. This course will include role playing and provide practical HR forms.
Optical Dispensary Boot CampSaturday, Nov. 8

Faculty: Arthur De GennaroEvent code: SPE03 Synopsis: For this hands-on program, registered participants will be contacted in advance and asked to bring performance data and marketing materials. This information will be used to complete in-class exercises that will benchmark various elements of dispensary life, including capture rate percentages and inventory turns.
In the second part of the course, the emphasis will be on low-cost marketing techniques. In the third part of the course, participants will hear from a panel of dispensing ophthalmology practices that have completed dispensary turnarounds. A generous amount of time will be set aside for attendees to ask questions.
Using Critical Financial Thinking to Improve Your Management of the PracticeSaturday, Nov. 8

Faculty: Ann Hulett, COE, CMPEEvent code: SPE04 Synopsis: This course is designed for administrators and physicians who bear the responsibility for monitoring and managing the financial performance of the practice. In our current environment, practice execs need to know more than just how to perform calculations. They must be able to present data to illustrate, motivate and monitor. The course will begin with the benchmarking and statistical calculations that may be appropriate and then move to refining the analysis for your practice taking into account size, culture and sub-specialty. There will be an interactive exchange on how to effectively communicate financial matters to physicians. Finally, the course will deal with using financial data to support consistent decision making and to motivate and monitor strategic planning.
Strategic Planning for Practice Executives: Positioning Your Practice for SuccessSaturday, Nov. 8

Faculty: Derek Preece MBA, Ann Hulett, COE, CMPEEvent code: SPE07 Synopsis: This course is designed to help practice executives and managing physicians understand how practices can turn the challenges of the future into opportunities. In this interactive course, participants will learn about the trends that are shaping the business of ophthalmology and share what they are doing in their practices to prepare for the future. A model for conducting planning sessions will be presented and discussed. The target audience for this course includes practice administrators and physicians who have responsibility for analyzing, selecting and pursuing strategic options for their practices.
